Skitopel® began out of a love of gardening and the outdoors but with an extreme dislike of pesky bugs including mosquitos, gnats, ticks, etc. as well as the use of nasty chemicals.

Being from the Midwest and living near the Mississippi River, we are well acquainted with all the annoying, nasty bugs and the need for a good repellent! For many years before we began the company, we did not buy any repellents as we were never bothered by bugs at home. After many, many hours of research what started as a garden of herbs around the house has now expanded to acres of herbs! 

We continue to expand our herb plantings each year because our goal is to make sure everyone can get outside; enjoy the many health benefits it offers and do so without bugs and without having to use harmful chemicals.

Our unique formula incorporates the entire herb into each product which makes it stronger and more effective at repelling a wide variety of bugs. We know this because our sprays have been scientifically tested and proven to be 100% repellent even at 2+ hours!

We are a certified woman-owned business located in the heart of the Midwest who have loved the outdoors our entire lives and are happy to be able to enjoy it bug free, chemical free, and deet free.

How it starts

We begin by growing herbs indoors in the winter. Each year we grow as many herbs in the winter as we can.

Each spring we expand

Once springs comes around, we get all the plants outdoors so they can grow and spread.

By late spring it is time to start cutting and drying. We are able to continue this all the way through late October.
